In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of media products?
Our media product uses thriller form of conventions which is shown through the title of our production studio. For example, the title is in bold silver letters which represents the cold themes that surrounds thriller films. We also challenge media projects as our film would only be available online and won't be distributed to cinemas therefore it would be much cheaper for the audience to access it.
Through our camera work we was to display signs of thriller conventions through the type of shot that was taken. For example, slow motion was used in order to intensify a particular moment like the criminal escaping which is frequently used in thriller films.
We exercised thriller conventions through our use of costumes as we made sure our characters wore classic police attire so they look like people that are commonly used in crime thrillers like the film Seven.
Here we was able to combine to popular genres crime and thriller. This sub-genre is quite popular amongst Hollywood films.
We displayed the common thriller conventions in our films but we found it easier to incorporate special effects when editing. For example, through our use of colour we was able to display different time elements through this. For example, the use of the colour black and white the audience was able to understand that the shot was recorded in the past so they would think that the escape happened previously.
Here we was able to challenge thriller conventions which is shown through our media product. For example, the main characters in our title sequence are females which are not frequent in thriller films. How we still had many male characters featured so that we can access to a wide range of audience.
We had a thorough lesson about how different groups in society are represented and it made us reevaluate our story board and casting board. For example, we could of made a fatal mistake in offending a group which would then lead to an automatic fail and cause problems with distribution..
We challenge thriller conventions by using a home made beginning sequence which would remind the audience that the material used is original compared to big recognisable media companies like universal that has less freedom. Furthermore, sometimes their work look every similar to each other.
Through our plot we followed popular thriller conventions of intense moments and we used inspiration from the film "The Fugitive".
